What is Social Security Disability (SSD)?
Social Security Disability is a program created by the federal government to provide individuals with qualified disabilities a source of income while they are unable to work. The Social Security Administration, a federal agency governed by Federal Law decides who is disabled.

The process to apply for Social Security Disability can take a long time and is very complicated because every person’s disability benefits are different.  The benefit determination is based upon what you have paid in Social Security taxes and for what period of time.

What is Supplemental Security Income (SSI)?

SSI is a program that helps adults and children who are blind, disabled or age 65 or older. Specific income requirements must be met. There are no minimum work requirements. The Social Security Administration (SSA) is now accepting SSI applications online. You can contact the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, visit https://www.ssa.gov/disabilityssi/ssi.html.
