‘What is civil litigation’ is a question everyone but lawyers ask. Litigation refers to the process of resolving a dispute in court. Civil disputes focus on wrongs, which are not criminal in nature and civil lawsuits and civil lawyers are dealing with issues that are not classified as crimes. A typical civil lawsuit deals with issues such as a breach of contract or negligence and covers a wide range of law categories whether it’s injury, business, employment or other.
For example, there was a dispute between a Falmouth landowner against the Town of Falmouth and the Falmouth Conservation Commission. The land was a beautiful spot with water views of Buzzards Bay and one of the last undeveloped lots in a residential area that was inherited by the landowner after being in the family since 1975. The landowner applied for permission to build a small home but was denied for the reason that the application didn’t comply with the Conservation Commission’s wetland regulations. READ MORE
